Desmond is 3! Ted is old!
My two favorite boys celebrate their birthdays within days of each other, and it always feels special. I remember when we were waiting for Des to make his arrival we were pretty certain he would arrive on Ted's birthday. He didn't but, and it's for the best because I like them both having their special day, but it's still sweet they share the same week.
Ted had to work later on his birthday, just like the year before, so we had a low key celebration his actual birthday. The kids and I picked up some of his favorite treats from the store for him to be happy to come home from work to. You know, normal things like Oh's cereal, Dr. Pepper and Cracklin' Oat Bran, haha. We also made him homemade cinnamon rolls and that's what he ended up blowing out candles to. The weekend came and he and I went on a date to one of our favorite restaurants here in Tucson, Reforma. The last year we've made a much more conscious effort to hire a babysitter and go on dates. It costs a lot more money. but it's so nice to just TALK without telling someone to sit in their chair nicely or to not knocking over the salt and pepper shakers. I say ~talk, and what we end up usually talking about is our kids, haha.
Des turned 3 on the 17th, and since it fell on a Sunday we made a much bigger deal about his birthday on Saturday when my family could be in town. We had a Spiderman party along with his favorite pizza - Domino's - and brownies for dessert. Initially it had been a triple layer homemade chocolate cake with strawberry frosting, like he requested, but the cake was a disaster and, uh yeah, emergency brownies to the rescue. After the party we all drove to Winterhaven and had the most amazing time. It's been a tradition to visit Winterhaven at the end of his birthday party, and it's become one of our favorite things. We always love when family comes into town to visit and celebrate with us.
A photo of the disastrous cake for your enjoyment and my misery, haha.
