first snow day of the year
On Saturday I ran to Target with Zoey for a couple things we needed. We decided to make it a little mommy/daughter date by stopping in the Starbucks for Pink Drinks (my favorite thing there!) and then allowing Zoey to pick out a new nail polish so that we could do matching manicures when we got home. While we were at Target I suddenly remembered that a big snow storm was scheduled to happen later that day as there were multitudes of people buying up firewood, snow shovels and propane. I seriously don't think I've ever seen so many people in Target in my entire life. Every checkout lane was in use and each had a mile long line. Absolute insanity. I guess I didn't really think the storm would be that big of a deal because they made the hurricane back in September seem like the apocalypse and all we got was a little rain. But as we were leaving the cashier looked at me very seriously and told me to try to be careful this weekend. I was thinking "oh, geez."
Anyway, the snow started Saturday afternoon and we woke up Sunday morning to a winter wonderland. Church was canceled because the roads were not in good condition and none of the church parking lots had been plowed. We spent the morning having sourdough french toast, playing in the snow, putting away the rest of the Christmas and playing a couple of our new board games. In the evening I plan to teach the kids my primary lesson I had planned to teach my primary class, and Ted will administer the sacrament since the Bishop emailed everyone encouraging families to do their own sacrament services. It's been an interesting day for us desert rats, especially watching all of our neighbors shovel snow and scrape their vehicles - things we didn't do because we don't have shovels and we don't have window scrapers, haha. We are hopeless!
