afternoon with zoey and des
We have all loved having Zelda's sweet spirit in our home. She really has added something so special to our family dynamic and she makes it really feel complete. Even so, I have missed taking the older two out on adventures with ease. This afternoon the weather was just cool enough to enjoy a walk around our neighborhood lake, so I grabbed Zoey and Des and left Zelda with Ted and we took off to the lake. Des gathered rocks to throw in the lake and Zoey gathered wildflowers. We found the most perfect spot to sit and dig in the mud and enjoy the warm breeze.
This year in Virginia has been one of the hardest of my life, and while I think I will always have a soured memory of this time in our lives, I can't deny how much I have enjoyed being surrounded by so much nature at our fingertips. As we were walking back home I told the kids to look up at the trees and take a mental picture of how tall and beautiful they were. How they canopied over us and how the trunks were so thick, some must have been around before our country wasn't even a country yet. Sometimes I am resentful towards people that I know that have solid roots set. They know what their long term plan is and where they will live and where their kids will graduate from high school. Not having that plan in place can be scary for me, but I also am grateful for the many experiences we have been able to give our kids that come with military life. On to the next adventure!
