the weekend
On Friday Ted got home from work earlier than expected so I was able to hit the gym during that amazing dead time of 3:00PM on a Friday afternoon and have the gym mostly to myself. This is especially great when I had to do dead lifts and not have my butt in some dude's up close and personal viewpoint. I've gotten really good at zoning everyone out at the gym, or at least pretending to do so over the last year, but still, empty gyms are my love language.
On my way out of the gym I got a message that Zoey's dance company practice had been cancelled and that sent me almost into a series of cheerleading moves and jumps that haven't happened in like, uhh, 15 years. Good thing I didn't attempt this or I may have (read: definitely would have) pulled something very unfortunate.
With our newfound Friday freedom we decided to take the kids bowling! Bowling is so great because it's easy for the kids, inexpensive (when we bowl at the base), and it's great entertainment for the kids watching me be 100% terrible at something while laughing at myself the entire time. This was the first time Desmond got to bowl, because the last time we went bowling he was still sitting in a baby carrier napping through the whole thing. Yeah, we don't bowl very often.
After we bowled we went to Costa Vida and saw all of our favorite workers that know our order by heart. I hear the Cheers theme song every time they start making our food without asking what we want.
With a fun adventure under our belts and great food in our bellies, the kids went right down to bed and Ted and I read for the rest of the evening. Honestly, my ideal Friday night.
Saturday I spent the bulk of my day reading as Ted took the kids to the park, played with them outside and played a bunch of board games when it started raining. I think it was just understood between us that I was in need of some "nobody touch me" time because after a day of reading he suggested I go see a movie by myself, which so happens to be one of my favorite things. I arrived at the movie theater just in time to snag the last ticket, and situate myself between two sets of elderly couples in the front row. If you were wondering, "Forever My Girl" is 100% great and 100% the movie your significant other doesn't want to see, haha. Perfect for a solo movie date with yourself! Word to the wise: go get a snack at concessions during the previews because they were some of the worst trailers I have ever seen.
