homeschool recap

It's been 18 months since I did my last homeschool recap, and things are very different now. We finished out our Bookshark curriculum in the summer of 2017, and I knew I wanted to go a different direction for the new school year. I did a lot of research and decided to piece together my own curriculum and so far we have loved it. I purchased the Playful Pioneers curriculum from The Peaceful Press, and it's focus is on The Little House on the Prairie series with Charlotte Mason teaching style principles. I combined that curriculum with Saxon 1st grade math, Beautiful Feet Early American History for early education, and All About Reading for phonics. Zoey is now a reading level where she can read chapter books, but prefers to read any and all picture books for entertainment. Right now we reading Little House on the Prairie, doing lots of notebooking and journaling, memorizing scriptures each week, playing outside as much as we can and breezing through her math curriculum.

Des has been tagging along in most of the activities I do with Zoey, and has been very resistant on sitting down and doing formal learning with me. It's been weird for me because Zoey was so eager to learn and loved it! I purchased The Peaceful Preschool curriculum from The Peaceful Press and am putting it together to start doing legit preschool with him in the next couple of weeks. He is much more shy than Zoey and I think he'd benefit from going to preschool with other children, so I will be exploring our options late summer. I also enrolled Zoey in a top charter school in our area, but she was waitlisted. I'm still unsure if we will send her to public school, but it's nice to have the option if she is chosen.
